USA Government delegation visit Department of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria
The Director of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Mordecai Baba Ladan on Wednesday June 15, 2016 hosted a delegation from the United States Government Bureau of Energy Resources, who visited the Department on a courtesy visit, as part of their 2-day itinerary of Lagos State.
The delegation which was led by Mr. Taylor Ruggles, the US State Department's Regional Energy Counsellor for Africa, was visiting to have a better appreciation of DPR's regulatory role in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, and gain insight into areas in which the United States can assist to grow the sector.
Mr. Ladan thanked the delegation for the visit and was particularly appreciative of the offer of support while reiterating DPR's continued readiness to discharge its statutory responsibilities particularly in ensuring that oil companies operating in Nigeria, including American companies are given requisite support to do business successfully in the country.
The DPR made a technical presentation to the US Energy team titled - 'THE NIGERIAN OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY: Prospects, Challenges and Opportunities' to set the scene for the discussions to follow. The presentation focussed on Industry overview, Nigeria's aspirations and ongoing reforms in the Gas sector. DPR concluded by highlighting contemporary industry challenges and potential areas of collaboration with the US Government.
Responding, the US team expressed appreciation for the useful insights into the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry provided in the presentation. The team requested for more details on areas where the US can provide assistance in support of Government's efforts to develop the sector while committing to sustain the engagement with the Department.
The Director of Petroleum Resources, in turn, expressed gratitude for the team's visit and interest in the development of Nigeria's Gas Sector. He thereafter pledged DPR's commitment in furthering the engagement by providing all necessary material and technical information to engender the anticipated mutual cooperation between both organizations and countries by extension.
Encouraging indigenous operators to enhance capacity building in the development of both large and marginal fields and also increase the nation’s production is one of the core focus of the Department of Petroleum Resources.
Emmanuel Bekee, DPR’s Deputy Director /Head, Upstream is a keynote speaker in the upcoming Africa Small & Marginal Oil Fields development Conference scheduled for 17 -18 August at Crowne Plaza, London. Mr. Bekee will highlight on the available fields , development and production activities and plans towards increasing production in Nigeria by 2017.
Mr. Emmanuel Kpenwin Bekee is the Deputy Director, Upstream Operations of DPR. Mr. Bekee has 27 years working experience in the Department of Petroleum Resource. He was employed in the then Petroleum Inspectorates as Geologist 2 and has gone through the ranks serving in various positions including O/C Field Development and chief Geologist rising to his current level of Assistant Director.
He has made several contributions on polices related to Field Development Programs, development of data on straddle field development and has attended various technical and management courses, seminal and workshops both locally and abroad.
He hails from Bodo City, Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State and holds a B.Sc. Degree in Geology. He also holds Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Exploration from University of Trondheim, Norway.
